Story Headlines- The Northwest Missouri State University football team defeated Missouri Western, 24-10, on Saturday afternoon at Spratt Stadium in St. Joseph, Mo.
- The No. 2 ranked Bearcats improve to 9-0 on the season while Missouri Western falls to 4-5 overall.
- Northwest held the Griffons to 28 total rushing yards and picked off three passes. Missouri Western was just 3-for-15 on third down conversions.
- Running back
Phil Jackson II had a game-high 78 yards rushing with two touchdowns.
- For the third straight game, defensive back
Kevin Berg recorded two interceptions for Northwest.
Northwest Scoring Sequences- After falling behind 7-0 in the first quarter, Northwest put together a 14-play, 65-yard scoring drive to tie the game, 7-7. Northwest got a key third down reception from
George Sehl for 16 yards to keep the drive moving.
Jordan Grove racked up runs of 11 yards and 13 yards to put the ball on the Griffon 13 yard line. With the ball on the one, Jackson ran it in from a yard out for his first score of the day.
- On the ensuing posession, Berg picked off a pass and returned it to the Griffon 24 yard line. Bolles found Grove for a key third-down conversion for 12 yards down to the seven yard line. Two plays later, Bolles found
Shawn Bane Jr., for a 10 yard strike to make it 14-7, Northwest.
- Northwest found the end zone again in the third quarter as Jackson broke multiple tackles and rumbled in from 29 yards out for his second score of the game to make it 21-10 Northwest.
Brady Bolles was perfect on the drive, completing passes to
Clayton Wilson for 11 yards, Grove for 25 yards and Bane for 14 yards.
- On Northwest's second posession of the fourth quarter,
Simon Mathiesen drilled a 37 yard field goal to put the Bearcats up, 24-10. It was his 14th made field goal of the season.
Key Northwest Statistics- Bolles was 20-for-39 for 267 yards and a touchdown. His 53 yard fourth-quarter completion to Bane was the longest pass play of the game for either team.
- Bane finished the day with six receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown. He also racked up 108 kickoff return yards, including a season-long 53 yard return to open the game.
- Northwest has seven different pass catchers on the day, led by Bane with six. Sehl (50 yards),
Shane Williams (42 yards) and
Clayton Wilson (27) all had three catches.
- Grove had six carries for 32 yards ont he ground. He also caught a pair of passes for 37 yards.
- Saturday marked just the second time this season that a team has scored first on Northwest. Central Oklahoma scored a first quarter touchdown before the Bearcats came back for a 23-16 victory in week four at home.

Jack Young recorded his second straight game with an interception, picking off a pass with 3:49 left in the fourth quarter to help secure the victory. He also had a pair of tackles.

Collin Bevins and
Jacob Vollstedt each had a team-best seven tackles. Both recorded 2.0 tackles for loss while Bevins recorded one of three Northwest sacks. Bevins also blocked a second quarter field goal attempt as time expired. Vollstedt had a pair of quarterback hurries.

Cass Weitl and
Brandon Yost each had six total tackles with a sack each. Yost had 1.5 tackles for loss and Weitl added 1.0 tackle for loss.

Brock Sherman came up with a third quarter fumble recovery, halting a Griffon drive that had made it down to the Northwest 23 yard line.
- Northwest held a 33:30 - 26:30 time of posession advantage. The Bearcats were 6-of-18 on third down conversions.
