Volleyball concludes weekend tournament

Story Highlights
- The Northwest Missouri State dropped a pair of matches at the NSIC Volleyball Challege in Sioux Falls, S.D., on Saturday.
- The Bearcats fell to Sioux Falls in the first match and lost to MSU-Moorehead in the second match.
- Northwest is now 3-5 on the season and will begin MIAA play at home starting on Tuesday.
- Sophomore Miranda Foster recorded 29 kills between the two matches on Saturday. She was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts.

Match One Key Facts (Northwest falls to Sioux Falls, 0-3)
- Miranda Foster had a game-high 14 kills to go along with 12 digs, two block assists and two assists to lead the Bearcats.
- Sarah Dannettell had 29 assists in the first match.
- Bailey Vance had seven digs defensively.
- Jackie Becker had eight kills and hit .438 for the match. She also had three block assists.
- Northwest hit .206 in the second set with 13 kills and only six errors.
- Sioux Falls hit .409 as a team.

Match One Key Sequence
Down 16-14 in the second set, Northwest rallied for three straight points to take a 17-16 lead as the Bearcats got kills from Becker, Foster and freshman Alexis Williams on consecutive plays.
 
Match Two HIghlights (Northwest falls to MSU-Moorhead, 1-3)
- Foster led the Northwest attack wiht 15 kills to go along wiht 20 digs, four block assists and a service ace.
- Natalie Gora had 11 kills and four block assists.
- Dannettell added 43 assists and three digs.
- Bailey Vance had a game high 25 digs defensively. Aarika Wittenburg added 11 with a pair of service aces.
- Kirsten Hudgens had four service aces on the evening to go along with nine digs.
- Northwest won the second set 25-17, hitting .359 as a team with just two attack errors.

Match Two Key Sequence
Late in the second set, Northwest rallied for a 20-15 lead over MSU Moorhead, prompting a timeout. After an attack error made it 21-15, the Dragons picked up a quick point to pull within five, 21-16. But a kill from Gora, a service ace from Wittenburg and a block from Becker and Dannettell put Northwest up, 24-16. Northwest would finish the set on a Foster kill two points later. The Bearcats scored eight of the set's last 10 points.

Up Next
Northwest opens a four-game homestand beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 16, with a 7 p.m. match against Lindenwood in the team's MIAA opener. Northwest will host a pair of weekend contests as well with Washburn on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. and Emporia State on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. following the football game.
