Box Score 2 MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State softball team met up with Missouri Western Tuesday for a nonconference double header falling in game one, 6-0, and then again in game two, 5-4.
The offense was quiet for the Bearcats as they managed two hits in game one.
The Gorillas scored in four of the seven innings as they walked away with the 6-0 victory. Abbie Vitosh was tagged with the loss.
Jordan Ereth and Chantel Adams were responsible for the two Northwest hits.
The Bearcats got on the board first in game one when Torri Blythe scored on a passed ball after reaching on a single up the middle.
The Griffons answered back with two runs of their own in the second before adding one more in the top of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead.
Steph Mark stroked a double to center field to plate Blythe from second base for her, team leading, 38th RBI of the season.
MWSU added one run in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-2 lead.
The Bearcats were trying to pull off the come from behind win as Baylee Scarbrough and Ereth both had RBIs on base hits in the bottom of the sixth, but fell short as they were shut down in the seventh.
Blythe went 3 for 4 in game two with two runs scored, while Mark was 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI.
Taylor Blackford took the loss in game two. It was Blackford's first loss on the season.
Northwest, 16-22, will continue nonconference action as they take on Missouri S&T Wednesday for a two game set. First pitch in Chillicothe, Mo. is set for 2:30 p.m.
