EMPORIA, Kan. - The Northwest Missouri State men's tennis team captured a 9-0 victory over Emporia State while the women's tennis team fell to the Hornets on Saturday, 5-4. The Northwest men move to 10-1 on the season and 2-0 in MIAA play. The women are now 8-10 overall and 4-3 in MIAA play.
The Northwest men took all nine points against the Hornets.
Sergio De Vilchez and
Lluis Altimires won at No. 1 doubles,
Alvaro Riveros and
Julien Couronne won at No. 2 doubles and
Romain Boissinot and
Amery Clews won at No. 3 doubles. In singles, De Vilchez won at No. 1, Boissinot won at No. 2, Riveros was victorious at No. 3, Altimires won at No. 4, Couronne won at No. 5 and
Fin Glowick won at No. 6. The Bearcats won all six singles matches in straight sets.
On the women's side, Northwest got wins from
Marianne Hull and
Mara Veasey at No. 2 doubles and
Aniek Kolen and
Stephanie Mannix won at No. 3 doubles. Kolen won at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-1, while Mannix picked up a victory at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
The men's team will take on Wichita State on Sunday in a 2 p.m. contest in Wichita, Kan. Both the men and the women will host William Jewell on Monday in Maryville, Mo. Those matches begin at 3 p.m.
