Northwest goes 1-1 at Divisional Crossover

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – For the second day in a row the Northwest Missouri State softball team split in a double header at the Missouri Western Divisional Crossover losing in game one to Northern State, 8-1 and then coming back to take down St. Cloud State, 8-3.

If you showed up in the second inning of game one, then you missed every run scored in the contest.

Northwest got on the board in the top of the first inning after Torri Blythe walked, then stole second and was knocked in by Chantel Adams who roped a double to the wall. It would be the only run the Bearcats would manage in the game.

NSU unloaded with an eight run first inning to take a commanding 8-1 lead, a lead they would never lose.

Both offenses were shut down the rest of the way out.

Paige Blythe threw 5.1 scoreless innings of relief for Northwest in game one as Abbie Vitosh was tagged with the loss.

Taylor Blackford took the circle for the Bearcats in game two.

Northwest struck first in the third inning after back to back singles by Jordan Ereth and T. Blythe set up Steph Mark who singled in both runners to give her team a 2-0 lead.

The Huskies answered back with two runs of their own to tie it up in the bottom half of the third.

The Bearcats took advantage of walks and errors in the fourth inning to score two more runs and go up 4-2. They would add four more runs on one hit in the top of the seventh.

SCSU managed one run in the bottom of the seventh as Blackford picked up the 8-3 victory. It was the second complete game victory for Blackford in as many days who is now 2-0 on the season.

Jordan Ereth went 2 for 3 with two runs scored, one RBI and two stolen bases.

Northwest is now 10-14 on the season and will take on Minnesota-State Mankato Sunday for the final game of the Divisional Crossover. First pitch has been moved to noon due to cold temperatures.
