Second half pushes Bearcats to win at Fort Hays


Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State football moved to 7-1 on the season with a 29-10 victory over Fort Hays State on Saturday afternoon at Lewis Field Stadium in Hays, Kan.
- Fort Hays State dropped to 4-4 on the year with the loss.
- Holding just a 7-3 lead at halftime, the Bearcats scored 22 second half points to remain at the top of the MIAA standings.

Northwest Key Statistics
- The Bearcats gained 449 total yards on 82 total plays. Northwest held a 34:43 to 25:17 advantage in time of posession.
- Northwest had 279 yards rushing and 170 total yards passing.
- The Bearcats converted 8-of-16 third down opportunites and held Fort Hays to just a 4-of-12 conversions defensively.
- Only eight penalties were enforced on Saturday with Northwest commiting just three for 23 yards.
- Brady Bolles completed 15-of-25 passes for 168 yards. He also ran the ball for 28 yards and a touchdown.
- Freshman Cameron Wilcox had a game-high 103 yards, marking his first career 100-yard plus game. He had 99 yards rushing against Central Oklahoma.
- Robert Burton III had his third multi-touchdown performance of the season, running for 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 16 carries.
- Eight different receivers caught passes on Saturday, led by Korey Jackson with four catches for 51 yards. Marcus Wright had four catches for 26 yards and Jason Jozaites had three receptions for 43 yards.
- Defensively, Northwest held Fort Hays State to 80 yards rushing and eight total first downs.
- Northwest had six total sacks on the day and 13.0 tackles for loss. Brandon Yost had 3.0 sacks on the afternoon. Kevin Arnold added one. Brock Sherman, Matt Longacre, Collin Bevins and Trey Randle all recorded 0.5 sacks.
- Zach Maloley's third quarter safety was the Bearcats' second two-point score of the season. Northwest forced a safety against Central Oklahoma back on Sept. 27, in Edmond, Okla. He finished the day with four total tackles and 3.0 tackles for loss.
- DJ Gnader had a team-high seven tackles. Saftey Jared Fox had two pass breakups and a pair of tackles.
- Linebacker Brock Sherman had six total tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss.
- The Tigers' lone touchdown came late in the fourth quarter on a 32-yard run by quarterback Traveon Albert.
- Northwest has now won 11 consecutive games against Fort Hays State. The Bearcats lead the all-time series 17-12-1.

Northwest Scoring Drives
- Northwest scored on the game's opening posession, driving 70 yards in just eight plays. Bolles found Korey Jackson twice through the air, including a 33-yard connection on third down to put the Bearcats on the three yardline. Burton ran it in on the next play to give Northwest a 7-0 lead.
- On Northwest's opening drive of the second half, the Bearcats put together a 10 play, 59 yard drive, capped by a seven yard keeper from Bolles. Northwest converted a pair of third down conversions on the drive and got a big 13 yard run by Cameron Wilcox.
- After failing to convert on an offensive drive that took it down to the FHSU one-yard line, the Northwest defense provided a safety late in the third quarter as Longacre brought down the Tigers' Kenneth Iheme in the end zone to make it 15-3.
- The Bearcats went up 22-3 to begin the fourth quarter as Wilcox ran it in from 16 yards out. Wilcox also had a 16 yard run on the drive and Burton had a 15 yard run as Northwest moved 50 yards in just five plays, taking 2:08.
- On the ensuing kickoff, Northwest's Kohlman Adema-Schulte recovered a loose ball and set the Bearcats up on the Tiger 22 yard line. Three plays later, Burton ran it in from 11 yards out to make it 29-3.

- The Bearcats return home to face Missouri Western on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m. The game will also be senior day as Northwest will honor the 21 members of this season's senior class.
