KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats were picked to finish first in both the MIAA Preseason Coaches and Media polls, which were released by the conference office on Monday. The Bearcats were picked first outright in the media poll and received equal votes with Missouri Western in the coaches poll.
In the media poll, Northwest finished with 300 points including 10 first place votes. Missouri Western also had 10 first place votes but finished with 294 points. Pittsburg State had two first place votes and Emporia State, who was ranked seventh, had one vote. Northwest and Missouri Western each had six first place votes in the coaches poll, totaling 159 points. Pittsburg State received two first place votes to be ranked third.
The team reports to camp on Wednesday, Aug. 14, and begins practice on Aug. 15. The 2013 season begins on Thursday, Sept. 5, when the Bearcats host Saginaw Valley State at 6:30 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium.
