Bearcat seniors end career with victory

Box Score

JOPLIN, Mo. – Five seniors from the Northwest Missouri State women's soccer team ended their collegiate careers on the winning side of the scoreboard Sunday as they defeated Missouri Southern 2-1.

The season had not gone as planned for the Bearcats who entered Sunday's season finale on a four game losing streak, but the team never stopping playing hard and never stopped competing to win.

Northwest faced adversity early in the contest has MSSU went ahead 1-0 with a goal in the 10th minute.

Elizabeth Walde knotted the game at 1-1 in the 37th minute with an assist from Fiona Moloney.

Both defenses were very stubborn in the second half as the goalies combined for 11 saves.

With under three minutes to play in regulation, Walde stepped up and drilled home her second goal of the game to put her team up 2-1. The assist came from the Bearcats all-time assist leader, Anna Calgaard.

Freshman Sophie Malcom picked up her first career victory in goal for Northwest as she grabbed nine saves in the win over MSSU.

The Bearcats end the season 5-11-2 and 3-7-1 in MIAA play.
