MARYVILLE, Mo. – DeShaun Cooper scored 15
second half points to help Northwest Missouri State rally from 13 points down
and knock off Washburn 65-59 for their eighth straight win Saturday night at
Bearcat Arena.
The Bearcats improved to 8-0 on the season for
the first time since the 2003-04 season and 2-0 in the MIAA. The loss dropped
Washburn 5-3 on the year and was also the first conference loss moving their
record to 2-1 in league play.
Cooper drilled a jumper after an Alex Sullivan
steal to give the Bearcats their first lead of the game with 2:29 remaining.
Washburn would regain the lead after a pair of
free throws, but it would be short lived.
Bryston Williams completed a three-point play
at the 1:30 mark in the second half pulling the Bearcats back in front, 60-58.
Williams added 10 points for Northwest in the win.
The Ichabods would be forced to foul as Cooper
would knock down a trio of free throws in the last minute to preserve the
Bearcat victory.
The Bearcats completed the comeback shooting a
season high 81 percent from the free throw line and holding the Ichabods under
40 percent from the field.
Northwest got 31 points off its bench including
a game high 20 points from DeAngelo Hailey to help keep the Bearcats perfect on
the year.
Hailey was outstanding helping Northwest stay
close in the first half scoring 18 points before the break. However, foul
trouble limited Hailey in the second half before he fouled out.
 Martin
Mitchell scored 17 points to lead Washburn.
The Bearcats continue their home stand on
Wednesday hosting Pittsburg State in MIAA action. Tip from Bearcat Arena is
slated for 7:30 p.m.
