MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State senior forward Hunter Henry scored 15 points and added eight rebounds in his final appearance at Bearcat Arena, but it was fourth-ranked Southwest Baptist that came away with an 81-58 win Wednesday in the ''Battle of the Bearcats''.
Henry became the third Northwest player to get 800 career rebounds. His 1,581 points are the sixth-most in program history.
Southwest Baptist (23-3, 16-3 MIAA) led 20-2 seven minutes into the contest and maintained a lead of 12 or more the rest of the way. The purple Bearcats made 15-of-37 three-pointers (.405) to clinch their second consecutive MIAA regular season championship and third in four seasons.
Southwest Baptist guard D''Ante Harris made five three-pointers and led all players with 21 points and five assists. Matt Rogers finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocked shots for the purple Bearcats.
Northwest (12-14, 7-12) got 17 points from Elijah Allen - his average spanning the last four games. Allen and Henry were the only green Bearcats in double figures.
Northwest''s loss Wednesday creates a winner-take-all scenario Saturday for the eighth and final MIAA tournament spot. The Bearcats and Missouri Southern (18-11, 8-11) will compete for the bid in Joplin, Mo., Saturday at 3 p.m.
