LAS VEGAS-No. 12 Drury used a 12-0 run early in the second half to pull away from Northwest Missouri State and earn an 82-64 win Saturday on the final day of the High Desert Classic hosted by Central Missouri.
Drury forward Dominique Long scored 13 of his team-high 17 points in the second half and led four Panthers who scored in double figures. Drury (8-2) led 32-29 at halftime but shot 57 percent and made 14-of-15 free throws in the second half to build on its lead.
Girod Adams knocked down five three-pointers and led Northwest with 21 points - his second 20-plus effort in as many nights. Adams made 11 treys in two games in Las Vegas.
Maciej Ustarbowski scored 13 points off the Bearcat bench and was 5-for-5 from the field. He also led the team with seven rebounds. Outside of Ustarbowski and Adams, Northwest (5-5) combined to shoot 25 percent (10-for-40) from the floor.
Five Drury players combined to score the 12 unanswered points. The Bearcats went four minutes without a field goal and saw a five-point deficit extend to 17 near the midway point of the second half.
Northwest won the turnover battle 21-14, but it was Drury which capitalized off mistakes. The Panthers scored 26 points off turnovers compared to 11 points gained from turnovers by the Bearcats.
Northwest returns to the court and MIAA play Dec. 30 when it hosts Pittsburg State.
