TOPEKA, Kan.-Washburn made nine first-half three-pointers, led by 18 at halftime and rolled to an 80-59 win against 21st-ranked Northwest Missouri State Saturday at Lee Arena. Lekheythan Malone led all players with 23 points and 10 rebounds to send the Ichabods (5-2) to 2-0 in MIAA play.

Edriss Floyd scored 13 points and Hunter Henry and Mike Larsen added 10 each for the Bearcats (3-3), who have dropped their first two MIAA games for the first time since the 1996-97 season.

Floyd hit back-to-back 3''s early in the contest to give Northwest a short-lived lead. Washburn answered with seven 3''s and a three-point play by Darnell Kimble to account for 24 of the Ichabods'' first 28 points.

Malone''s third 3 of the first half gave Washburn a 28-16 lead less than eight minutes before the half. The Ichabods led 49-31 at the break and maintained a lead of at least 13 points the rest of the way.

Washburn shot 65 percent in the first half and 54 percent for the game. The Ichabods finished 11-of-22 from behind the arc.
