PITTSBURG, Kan. - Hunter Henry scored a season-high 26 points and was one of four Bearcats in double-figures as Northwest Missouri State lost a 14-point second half lead and fell 63-61 to Pittsburg State at John Lance Arena.
Northwest (5-7, 0-5 MIAA) jumped out to an 11-4 lead early in the first half with all the points coming from the duo of Henry and Ben Haarman. The Gorillas (7-5, 2-3 MIAA) answered back with seven unanswered points to knot the game at 11-11 with 10:44 remaining in the first half. Northwest answered with an 11-2 run to take a nine-point lead at 22-13 with just under four minutes remaining and held for a five-point halftime advantage at 26-21.
The Bearcats opened the second half with another 11-2 run to take a 14-point lead at 16:23 after a jumper and free-throw from Henry. The Gorillas gradually chipped at the lead before converting an eight-point deficit with four minutes remaining to a one-point lead off a three-pointer from Carlos Taylor with 38 seconds left.
Henry finished with his 21st career double-double and led all players in scoring and rebounding after he grabbed a season-high 14. Elijah Allen reached double-digit points for the fifth consecutive game with 12 points and recorded six rebounds, the most for him in conference play this season.
Kyle Haake scored a season-best 12 points with five-of-six shooting from the field. Ben Haarman rounded out Bearcats with double-digit points with 10.
