MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State head men''s basketball coach Steve Tappmeyer earned his 400th career win following his Bearcats'' 83-68 victory against William Woods Wednesday at Bearcat Arena.
Tappmeyer becomes the 28th active NCAA Division II head coach with 400 wins. He''s now 400-197 (.670) in his 21st year at Northwest.
Bearcat forward Hunter Henry led all players with 23 points and a season-high 13 rebounds. It''s the second consecutive double-double for Henry, who has four in eight games this season and 19 in his four-year career.
Northwest (4-4) shot 50 percent from the field and had 25 assists against six turnovers in ending its first three-game losing streak in nearly three years. Mike Larsen had a season-high seven assists, zero turnovers and four points.
Dan Anderson scored all 16 of his points in the first half to lead the Owls. He hit four 3-pointers in the opening half, but was 0-of-5 in the second and finished 5-of-16 from the field. Zach Roling had 13 points and Justin Cornelius added 11 for William Woods.
Northwest led 40-33 at the break and by nine early in the second, but back-to-back 3''s from Roling and Jerone Lester cut the lead to 51-48 with 15 minutes remaining.
Henry, who had nine points in the first half, scored 10 points during a seven-minute stretch of the second that pushed the Bearcats'' lead to 12. A pair of field goals from Jake Reinders and Northwest led 71-57 with seven minutes left. Northwest led by 10 or more points the rest of the way.
Henry was 11-of-14 from the field and added two blocks and two assists. Edriss Floyd and Ben Haarman each had three 3-pointers for Northwest and finished with 11 and nine points, respectively. Elijah Allen finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.
