MARYVILLE, Mo. - ( stats) Sophomore forward Hunter Henry went for a career-high 22 points and 13 rebounds as he led #18 Northwest Missouri State men''s basketball to a 74-54 victory this evening over Graceland (Iowa) at Bearcat Arena. Henry notched his second straight double-double and third consecutive 10-plus point game.
Northwest moves to 3-0 on the young season while Graceland, who is out of the NAIA ranks, falls to 1-6 overall.
The game stayed relatively close until the Bearcats went on a 14-2 run mid-way through the second half. Freshman Mike Larsen ignited the spurt with one of his two treys followed by a Victor James lay-up and three Bearcat free throws. At that point, Northwest led 56-39 and GU never cut the margin under 15 points.
Henry, who nearly had as many offensive rebounds as Graceland (10-11), already had 14 points and nine boards at the half. Junior Dillon Higdon added a personal-high 12 points with two 3-pointers. Graceland''s Tyler Dow led the team with 13 points, with nine coming in the second half. Simon Morefield came away with 10 points in 19 minutes.
Northwest forced a season-high 31 turnovers and out-scored the Yellowjackets from the free throw line and three-point land by a 28 combined points.
This weekend, Northwest heads to the Northern (S.D.) State Super 8 Classic in Aberdeen, S.D. The Bearcats take on Northern on Friday at 8 p.m. followed by Mary (N.D.) on Saturday at 6 p.m.
NOTES: The previous career-high for Hunter Henry was 21 points versus Upper Iowa last Friday ... Northwest shot an icy 36 percent (25-of-69) but held a 19-3 scoring edge from the charity stripe ... The Bearcats have forced an average of 28.0 turnovers in the first three games ... Northwest has won 14 of 15 all-time meetings against Graceland.
