Zach Martin is the wide receivers coach for the Bearcats.

In 2022, Martin helped Kashan Griffin gain second-team all-MIAA status. Griffin caught 34 passes for 708 yards (20.8 yards/catch) and led the team with four touchdown receptions.

Martin helped the Bearcat receiving corps earn a trio of MIAA honors in the 2021 season. Alec Tatum (second team), Imoni Donadelle (honorable mention) and Kaden Davis (honorable mention) each earned all-MIAA status. Davis signed a free agent deal with the Denver Broncos following the 2021 season.

Martin has been on campus at Northwest since arriving as a junior college transfer quarterback in 2016. Martin played in seven games during his junior season in which the Bearcats captured the program’s sixth NCAA national title. Martin, who earned all-MIAA honorable mention honors, passed for 2,385 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2017 as he helped lead the Bearcats back to the playoffs.

He set the Northwest single-game touchdown passes record with six vs. Missouri Southern (Sept. 23, 2017). Martin earned MIAA academic honor roll accolades in 2016 and 2017.

Following his playing career, Martin joined the Bearcat coaching staff as a graduate assistant. He helped coach the running backs in 2018 and the wide receivers in 2019. Martin served as a part-time assistant coach in 2020 as he continued working with the Bearcat wide receivers. Martin earned his bachelor’s degree in applied and health sciences at Northwest. He then added his master’s degree in education from Northwest in May 2020.

Martin is a native of Omaha, Nebraska, and he attended Omaha North High School before embarking on a collegiate football career at Iowa Western.
