College tennis provides a unique blend of individual and team sport elements all in to one. You can’t look at the outstanding career of Julie Caputo without merging these two concepts.

The Lincoln, Nebraska native certainly took care of the individual side.  Logging most of her matches at the #1 or #2 spot in both the singles and doubles position; she was repeatedly victorious in her showdowns with the best players from the opposition.  She finished with 67 total singles victories, which is 10th all-time in school history.  At the time of her graduation, she held the school record for most combined wins in a single season following her remarkable 42-4 campaign as a junior.  In addition, she would capture 4 MIAA titles throughout her time as a Bearcat.

The overall team aspect resulted in just as much success for Julie, most notably her prominent role on three straight MIAA regular season team titles.  In fact, during that three-peat run they were undefeated in conference play each season and her 1992 team still holds the record for most combined singles victories in one year. There may be no more impactful team stat to share regarding Julie and her teammates than this – since the program’s inception in 1976, the Bearcats claimed just one MIAA team title in the first 16 years.  That culture changed when she arrived in the early 90s leading to an impressive nine titles over the next 16 years.  Truly establishing Northwest as a power in women’s tennis throughout the Midwest.
