Originally from Guadalajara Mexico, Eduardo Jarolim (pronounced Jar – leem) was a driving force behind a team that began a run of 10 MIAA tennis titles over the next 20 years.

A transfer from Laredo Junior College, Eduardo was thrown right into the mix from the beginning.  He played the number one position in both singles and doubles throughout his career, facing the opponents best each and every match. He tallied 33 career singles victories and another 37 wins in doubles action. He would finish second each season in MIAA singles and captured the 1995 MIAA doubles title after a runner-up finish in 1994. He advanced to the National Tournament in singles play in 1994, ending up as the #32 ranked player in the country. In 1995 his doubles team with Dave Subrt (pronounced Sue-Bert), was one of the greatest duos to ever represent the Bearcats. They went a remarkable 25-5 on the season playing in the number one position.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Bearcat men’s tennis team consistently finished behind Southwest Baptist and their seven consecutive MIAA titles. In ’95 that all changed as Eduardo led the way to finally stopping the “other” Bearcats streak, capturing the second MIAA men’s team title in program history. Behind the strength of his singles and doubles play, the 1995 team advanced to the NCAA Regional in Topeka – their first berth since 1978 – defeated Washburn in the first round and Southwest Baptist in the second round to earn a berth to Nationals in Davis, California as one of the top 16 teams in the nation. They finished with 21 victories, which was a school record at that time.

Eduardo’s positive impact on the Bearcat tennis program continues today as current Bearcats Camila Quesada (K-sad-ah), Marianne Hull, Alvaro Riveros and Josef Altmann all trained under his direction. In addition, his niece Lorena Rivas Jarolim is a currently a sophomore on the Bearcat tennis team.

Today, Eduardo lives in Costa Rica
