Adam Bailey came to Northwest in the late 1990s fresh off a prolific high school career. At first glance, he might not fit the mold of a prototypical power-hitting threat for a team – after all those are supposed to be oversized guys that play corner infield spots or do nothing but focus on hitting as a designated hitter. Well, those aren’t the traits that Adam possessed, but the numbers the Excelsior Springs native put up definitely fit the script.
Just like our other inductees tonight, Adam finds himself in exclusive company within his sport. He is only one of seven Bearcat baseball players to have earned selection to an All-American team during their career. That 2nd team All-American honor followed his junior campaign that saw him bat .417 with 61 RBI and 18 home runs. That would be one of the greatest single season offensive performances by a Bearcat in school history, but Adam was far from a one season wonder. His list of career accolades reflects a student-athlete that could do about anything in the batter’s box. He is the all-time home run leader in school history with 40, the leader in career doubles and total bases, second in career slugging percentage and RBIs, third in total hits and sixth in career batting average.
All numbers that prove he did so much more than just swing for the fences. His consistent play led to selections to All-MIAA teams following each season for the green and white.
