MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University football fans will see a new football field design for the 2016 season on
Mel Tjeerdsma Field at Bearcat Stadium. Construction will begin on Tuesday, June 21. As a result, Bearcat Stadium and the Herschel Neil Track will be closed to the public. Installation is scheduled to be completed prior to fall football camp. The project is scheduled to take 5-6 weeks to complete.
Â
Northwest worked with FieldTurf who provides playing surfaces for over 4,000 facilities in the United States, including five NFL stadiums. The Field Turf Revolution FTRV360-1 will replace the current field which was installed back in 2007. The project is under the direction of Allen Mays, Northwest's Capital Program Manager along with the CHA architectural firm.
Â
Pieces of the old turf, which was used for nine seasons, will be made available to interested fans and former players. More details will be made available in the near future. During the nine-year span, Northwest went 42-4 at home and a perfect 15-0 in NCAA playoff games. The Bearcats were 5-0 in national semi-final contests, capturing three national titles and two national runner-up finishes.
