Bearcats fall to UMD in NCAA first round


Story Headlines
- The Northwest Missouri State University football team fell to the University of Minnesota-Duluth, 25-21, on Saturday at James S. Malosky Stadium.
- The loss ends the Bearcats' season at 10-2. UMD advances to the second round to play Ouachita Baptist.

- The Bearcats ran the ball for 236 yards on 45 carries. Northwest had 375 yards of total offense.
- The Northwest defense allowed just 106 yards passing and recorded three sacks.
- Brady Bolles threw for 139 yards, completing 12-of-21 attempts.
- Kyle Zimmerman ran for 65 yards and a touchdown. Phil Jackson also ran for a Northwest touchdown.
- Eric Reimer had a team-best 12 tackles.
- Korey Jackson had 61 yards receiving on three catches. Quanzee Johnson had two catches for 20 yards and Jason Jozaites had two catches for 18 yards.

Key Plays
- UMD scored on the opening posession of the game. But on the ensuing PAT attempt, Northwest's Eric Reimer got a hand and blocked the kick.
- Down, 6-0, late in the first quarter, Northwest pinned the Bulldogs on their own 16 yard line. After a short rush, Brandon Yost and Matt Longacre recorded sacks on successive plays to force a UMD punt from its own end zone.
- After a Kyle Goodburn punt pinned the Bulldogs inside the 15 yard line, Northwest forced a three-and-out and got the ball back on its own 45 yard line. On the second play of the series, Quanzee Johnson drew a pass interference call to move the ball into Bulldog territory. After designed runs from Bolles and Kyle Zimmerman, Phil Jackson ran it in from two yards out to cap a nine-play 55-yard drive.
- After forcing another three and out, Northwest brought pressure from the edge and Bryce Enyard got a hand out to block the kick. A number of Bearcats had a chance to scoop the ball but Kohlman Adema-Schulte scooped it cleanly and ran it in from the three yard line to make it 14-6 in favor of Northwest.
- On the opening drive of the third quarter, Bolles found Korey Jackson for a 37 yard completion and one play later, Zimmerman ran it in from 29 yards to make it 21-6 in favor of Northwest.
- UMD scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to pull within two, 21-19. Reimer came up with another big special teams play as he tipped a pass on the two-point conversion to keep Northwest in the lead.
- The Bulldogs scored with 26 seconds remaining to pull ahead, 25-21. The two point conversion was unsuccessful.
